Makrothen RTTY Contest

Radio contestPosted by Mikael Sun, October 14, 2018 22:29:20

This weekend it was time for the Makroth RTTY Contest. What is different with this contest is mainly two things.

First, the 24-hour contest is divided into three passes each 8 hours with rests between them. The second is that there are no multiples and that there are distances between the stations giving 1 point per kilometer (7 MHz multiplies the score by 1.5 and 3.5 MHz multiplies the score by 2). It's a fun contest and I have been working it every year since 2015. What I would like to change in the future (if I could make a decision) is that a third power class is introduced in the competition, namely QRP - but maybe it will be introduced later.

This year I had a goal to beat my previous results and despite bad conditions, I managed to beat my previous scoring record. My previous record was from the Contest in 2016 with a final result of 511 778 points.

This year I have a raw score of 621 602 points with 249 QSOs and I am pleased with the result because of the bad conditions on the bands.

The map shows the QRA-fields that I have in my logg.

Thanks for a nice contest weekend and I hope to see you soon again on the air.

Best 73's Mikael (SB0A)

Russian WW Digital Contest 2018

Radio contestPosted by Mikael Sun, October 07, 2018 14:58:09

During the weekend of 6-7 October it was time for the annual Russian radio competition "Russian WW Digital".

My goal this year was to try to beat my score from the 2017 competition. Last year my result was 70080 points with 183 QSO and 96 multiples in the competition log. Despite poor conditions, this year's preliminary score became slightly better and it felt good that my goal of the competition was achieved.

I thank you for the nice contacts and for your points and I hope to see you again next year in the competition. Best 73's Mikael

CQ WW DX RTTY Contest 2018

Radio contestPosted by Mikael Mon, October 01, 2018 16:04:05

This weekend it was time for the big RTTY radio contest CQ WW DX RTTY Contest and this year it was a little special for me.

I had the privilege of using a state-of-the-art equipment with the Flexradio FLEX-6600 SDR radio and a Hy-Gain TH11 antenna mounted at the top of a 30 meters tower. I have a best friend named Tore (callsign SM0NCS and SC0N) and I was able to use his radio equipment for this competition (see picture showing his TH11 antenna on the top of the tower).

I participated in the Single Operator Assisted All Band Low Power (SOA ALL LP) class - I finally got a result with 735 QSOs and a raw score of 344 288 points. In the log I got a total of 68 different DXCC countries, 30 different states and regions in the US and Canada and stations located in 19 different CQ-zones.

I'm overall pleased with the result and I was active for 1945 minutes, which also corresponds to 32 hours and 25 minutes, during the contest. But on the other hand, I could have been active for another 935 minutes or for 15 hours and 35 minutes. Next year I will try to beat my own results and perhaps also be active during more hours.

Thank you for your points and multipliers this time and I hope to hear from you again soon - Best 73's Mikael (SM0LPO / SB0A)

QSL-cardPosted by Mikael Tue, September 25, 2018 16:01:12

Today I designed my new QSL card which I also provide the digital service eQSL.cc.

The picture shows how nature slowly but surely changes color to more spectacular colors that are also associated with autumn. The pictures was taken by myself and the place is a lake not far from my QTH.
